Camps are where the sempai have an opportunity to observe your growth and potential beyond class timeCamp features concepts and techniques that are not covered at class.   Black belts are indeed forged at the camps. If you are having financial pains, talk to the slush fund group (Mr. Adams, Mr. Granja) now and get squared away. If you can donate money to the scholarship fund to help others, please let me know right away!

Please note: no application can be submitted without a payment of some type, credit card, check or cash. You may postdate checks and credit cards  until Feb. 28th. This will avoid late fee charge. Again, please do not submit this form without payment, it will be sent back to you otherwise.

Please read the supplemental information very carefully to understand how this kangeiko will operate. It is quite different than previous sessions ( in meals, lodging, class times, driving.)

Costs:  Overnight students can arrive anytime after 2 pm on Friday but the action starts about 5 pm. You are being housed in special vacation homes. Students sleep in beds or on the floor in air mattresses (be prepared to bring one.) PMA provides  breakfasts, lunch and dinners and snacks. Departure is  Sunday between 3 and 4 pm, depending on weather.

Day students drive each day to the camp but do not have to be there at any set time or stay late. Day students can even skip a day! Only lunches are provided and snack foods. Students will buy their own breakfast on the way up (usually at Alpine.) Students may choose to have dinner together at the very nearby Edelweiss restaurant on the lakeshore of Lake Cuyamaca.

Car Pools:  your early registrations  is needed so organizers can assist in the driving. In general parents are discoursed from driving teenagers up and back. Bushies need to be bonding and karate relating to other shoguns. All Teenagers can only drive in cars with an adult driver, and no coed teen driving of any type unless the organizers are really stuck for drivers!

Please read the following to get an understanding of this special retreat style camp.

Dear PMA Federation Students,

The Headquarters is a large house located on the lakefront road of Lake Cuyamaca, about an hours drive from the city. I am renting extra housing. Number two house for the ladies is located 2 miles outside Julian in the mountains and about a twenty minute drive from the headquarters. This house sits on 9 acres that we may use for some of the training. During lesson time, all groups will meet at designated spots for the workouts and seminars.

Classes will be mainly outdoors in various mountain and lake areas such as the Julian High school, shoreline Lake Cuayamaca, the 9 acre ladies house, Julian Park, etc. Part of the fun of this retreat is to be traveling around the Julian area visiting scenic sites and working out. For example, remember the great weapons classes last summer overlooking the desert from the mountain top.  Dress for winter outdoor training…. Cold!

Lunches will be located at the headquarters house (weather permitting, outdoors). Evening meals will be in the houses and also at the Edelweiss restaurant on the lakeside. Breakfasts will be served in each house but only to the overnight students.

When you register, if you already reserved a house spot earlier with Master Devine, please pay the full fee now. This will likely guarantee your spot. Others who may want to lodge overnight can apply for a spot by paying now but I cannot guarantee the space at this time.

If you want to be a day student, you must register for all three days but you do not have to come every day nor stay the full day and evening.  Try to stay for some of the evening seminars before heading back. Day trippers should be prepared to car pool and share rides with different people that we will arrange for you.

Slush fund: there is fund raising happening in the dojo and the building up of a scholarship fund. If you need financial help to go, please ask and the organizers can put you in touch with the slush fund committee. You can also donate funds to help others attend!

This camp features all weapons and open hand  karate-do, including  sparring. There are in depth academic seminars. Details on what to bring will be emailed out later. Register right now to get your lodging reserved.

If you cannot attend you MUST politely inform Master Devine  now. This is mandatory! Camps like the tournaments are a required part of the curriculum. Your not attending is a loss for both you and the PMA. Good protocol means good communication!
