Camp Details..........

Camps are where the sempai have an opportunity to observe your growth and potential beyond class time.  Camp features concepts and techniques that are not covered at class.   Black belts are indeed forged at the camps.

This years camp is at Borrego Springs High School and we have rented the whole school for our kangeiko. We will have the gym, classrooms, lecture hall, the grounds, dining room and an auxiliary gym for our use.

Please note: no application can be submitted without a payment of some type, credit card, check or cash. This will avoid late fee charge. Again, please do not submit this form without payment, it will be sent back to you otherwise.

Costs:  Overnight students can arrive anytime after 2 pm on Friday but the action starts about 5 pm.  Students sleep  on the floors of gym, classrooms and lecture room on air mattresses (be prepared to bring one.) PMA provides  breakfasts, lunch and dinners and snacks. Departure is  Sunday between 3 and 5 pm, depending on weather.

Car Pools:  your early registration  is needed so organizers can assist in the driving. In general parents are discouraged from driving teenagers up and back. Bushis need to be bonding and karate relating to other shoguns. All Teenagers can only drive in cars with an adult driver, and no coed teen driving of any type unless the organizers are short on cars.

Special driving arrangements are usually made for our samurai students directly with the parents.

Sleeping arrangements: segregated by gender, different rooms, also partially age segregated.

Slush fund: there is fund raising happening in the dojo and the building up of a scholarship fund. If you need financial help to go, please ask and the organizers can put you in touch with the slush fund committee. You can also donate funds to help others attend! This really has proved in the past to be most helpful!

This camp features all weapons and open hand  karate-do, including  sparring. There are in depth academic seminars. Details on what to bring will be emailed out later.

Special note on samurai age students attending camp: we usually allow 15 samurai to attend the senior camp if we deem they have the maturity to handle this. The parent must be prepared to drive (car pool) the students to Borrego Springs and also do the pick up. We need you to preferably arrive in the daylight on Friday which means you need to start driving right after school. Your departure is moved ahead to 1 pm on Sunday for safety concerns about the driving. Sometimes we can provide rides with our adults so please ask. Students are segregated for sleeping arrangements. (Borrego Springs is about 2 hours driving, 90 miles, and the roads are very good. If the weather is bad such as snow in the mountains, that can pose a problem.) In the case of dangerous road conditions due to weather we will break camp early and if necessary hold the camp at Old Town studio.

If you cannot attend you MUST politely inform Master Devine  now. This is mandatory! Camps like the tournaments are a required part of the curriculum. Your not attending is a loss for both you and the PMA. Good protocol means good communication!
